Halloween Fancy Dress Party
Friday 30th October
There will be no swimming for that Friday, as we will be celebrating our Halloween party. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this.
Dear Parents,
On Friday 30th October we will be having a Halloween party in K1. This will be a fancy dress party so please come dressed in your favourite Halloween costume. We will be celebrating Halloween as part of our Golden Time on Friday the 30th.
We are asking parents to provide a plate of food for their child to enjoy during our party. This is so that all children can be catered for regardless of dietary requirements.
We are providing some simple guidelines as to what you might want to include for your child’s picnic snack.
Small handful of chips
Small sandwich or spring roll
Vegetable sticks
1 piece of fruit
1 biscuit
As the food you provide will be alongside their regular snack and lunch, we have included a picture for guidance on how much food to send.
Thank you for your support in this event. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Kind Regards,
Ms Phibz

Special Assembly this week
UDIS celebrated the 10 learner profile this week
Here are a few pictures of the assembly!
literacy and Unit of Inquiry
This week has been quite a short one for us, but we started off
with our second Unit of Inquiry 'How We Express Ourselves'
We tuned in to our first provocation discussing the Central Idea
' We explore and make sense of our world through the stories we tell'
Strategy: I see, I think, I wonder
- What kind of stories do we see in our classroom?
- What stories will we be reading during this Unit?
- What kind of stories do I want to explore?
Learners were very enthusiastic and are taking a great interest in all of the
stories we have read or will be reading.
We then tuned in to our first story 'The Stick Man'
- Introduction to the story
-Read the story and discussed what happened to The Stick Man?
- We then went out to collect our own sticks to create our own Stick Man
Communication and Language (Phonics)
Large group
- Tony train was surprised to find animals on its journey to the jungle.
- We played the game by recognising the first initial sound in the animals Tony Train met on its way.
Mathematics
- We started with the number of the week
'1'
- We then split into our differentiated groups to work on our targets.
Learners were very engaged and are beginning to develop knowledge and understanding of numbers. We will continue to work on these targets until the end of this term.
Classroom environment
In the Early Years, we ensure that the environment suits the needs of our learners in all different aspect of learning 'inside and outside'
As we move along in our journey of learning we intend to change the areas and bring in new exciting opportunities.
This term the learners will be designing their own reading area an opportunity for them to use their voice and choice as to how they would like to see their learning areas.
Next week
Literacy/Talk 4 Writing activities (What is done each day, What is the success criteria?)
• Beginning to be aware of the way stories are structured.
• Suggests how the story might end
• Listens to stories with increasing attention and recall.
• Describes main story settings, events and principal characters.
• Recognises familiar words and signs such as own name and advertising logos.
• Show empathy for characters in a story
Book of the week : Not a Stick!
Monday:Introduce Not a Stick. Discuss what can we do with just one stick. Read the book and sing the rhyme.
Extension: Let’s get creative with a stick. What can we do with a stick. Provide different materials and let’s get to work.
Tuesday : Sing the rhyme again. Continue working on being creative with our sticks. Create our reading area
What do you think the stick will be?
If you had a stick, what would you make your stick into?
What would you paint?
Extension: Continue making our stickman project - Continue making our name tags if not done.
Wednesday: Math focus
Thursday: -Watch Stick Man and Loy Krathong event
Extension : Create our own Stick Man and write names - Ask the children to form some letters in their names - Recognise the first initial sound
Golden Friday: HALLOWEEN PARTY - Trick or Treat, Freeze dance, Pin the mummy, Make potions
Communication and Language/Phonics activities (What is done each day, What is the success criteria?)
Beginning to use more complex sentences to link thoughts (e.g. using and, because).
• Can retell a simple past event in correct order (e.g. went down slide, hurt finger).
Focusing attention - still listen or do, but can shift your own attention.
Beginning to understand ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions.
Aspect 5: Alliteration
Objective: To hear differences in the sounds at the beginning of words.
Large group:
Sound story
Pick a ‘target sound’ again. For example, let’s say the target sound is ‘s’. Then make up a story with lots of ‘s’ sounds in. Say to the children ‘If you hear a ‘s’ then put your hands on your heads.’ You can really emphasise the sound to start with, but you could make it less obvious if the children get better at the game.
Phonics assessment to roll out. To be able to modify the needs of the learner. Please see Tapestry for more observations regarding this.
Maths activities (What is done each day, What is the success criteria?)
Knows that numbers identify how many objects are in a set.
• Beginning to represent numbers using fingers, marks on paper or pictures.
• Sometimes matches numeral and quantity correctly.

Not a stick
Discuss and read what a stick can do? What can we change it into? Can we create a paint brush? Etc...
Read the story "Not A Stick" to the class. Give each child a stick and encourage them to think of different ways it can be used instead when it's not a stick.
Do the 'Think/Pair/Share' activity. Go around the circle and see how many ideas children have.
The teachers take photos and either scribe,"It's not a stick. It's a _____".
