We then split into groups and to count numbers using different manipulative. We are beginning to show interest in numbers in our environment. We went out to find numbers in our school and classroom.
Unit of Inquiry
This week we read the book 'I like myself' and continued with our self-portraits. We started our first show and tell this week. Learners were very excited to bring their favourite toys, books, and unique things that are special to them. Learners will eventually build confidence in sharing their thoughts and ideas. Here are a few pictures to show that.

- Shows interest in illustrations and print in books and print in the environment.
- Look at books independently.
- Handles books carefully.
We will start our new book ' We are going on a bear hunt'
There will be lots of surprises for the children to explore the story
Monday- Introduce the story ‘We are going on a bear hunt’ ask learners if they know the book. What do they think is going to happen in the book. Read together and do the actions
Extension: MAke binoculars -
Tuesday- Learn the action from the story and sing together
Extension: Build the Bear’s cave
Once the book has been introduced and re-read a few times, suggest to the children that they might like to change the role-play area to fit with this story world. Talk together with them to share ideas about how this might be done, for example, what do you think the bear’s den would be like?
Thursday- Retell the story outside. Create our story and feel it in real
Extension: Footprints to make our bears
Friday - Bring our Teddy bears for Golden Time.
Ask the children to find their favourite Teddy and explain we are going on an adventure with our Teddies. Form a group in a corner and place fingers on lips and tiptoe into the woodland, holding Teddies. Move to the music. Hide behind trees, and peek out and say BOO, spin teddies around, swing them through your legs, skip with them, let them bounce up in the air, hold both paws and twirl around. Create your own dance with the bears. Find a clearing and sit down in a circle. Replay the music (quietly). Pass plates to each child, bring your favourite snack to school (Healthy) Feed all the delicious food to the Teddies.
Communication and Language/Phonics
Learning Target:
Is able to follow directions (if not intently focused on his/her own choice of activity).
Joins in with repeated refrains and anticipates key events and phrases in rhymes and stories
Tuning in: Pass the Bucket Rhyming Bingo
Talk about the pictures on each board and identify the rhyming words. Ensure that the children are familiar with the pictures and rhyming words on their board.
Finding out:
Different rhymes that we can sing
Sorting out:
Review our rhymes- Create a staging area on our carpet with some disco lights and a microphone.
Going further:
Review our rhymes
Taking action: Confidently sing the rhymes
Assess the children if they are able to remember the rhymes.
Extension: Learning songs and rhymes Make sure that singing and rhyming activities are part of the daily routine in a small-group time and that extracts are repeated incidentally as events occur (e.g. It’s raining, it’s pouring as the children get ready to go outdoors in wet weather). Play with rhyming words throughout the course of the day and have fun with them. Sing or chant nursery rhymes and encourage the children to move in an appropriate way (e.g. rock gently to the beat of ‘See Saw Marjorie Daw,’ march to the beat of ‘Tom, Tom the Piper’s Son’ and the ‘The Grand Old Duke of York, skip to the beat of ‘Here we go round the Mulberry Bush’).
Important Notice
Mystery Reader
Dear Parent
This year we would like to run a new initiative to promote the importance of reading and literacy and to improve school-parent connections.
On the last Friday of each month, the EY classes will be asking for a ‘Mystery Reader’ to read a story of their choosing in whatever language they would like. This can be done either through Google Meet or by sending a pre-recorded video to show the children.
The first date for this will be Friday 25th September 2020.
In class, the teacher will be getting the children excited about our ‘Mystery Readers’ and we may even play games to try and guess who it might be. If you decide to sign up for the Mystery Reader, please do not tell your child! It will be a fun and exciting surprise for them!
Please help us to encourage a love of reading for your children by volunteering to sign up and be a ‘Mystery Reader’.
Kind regards
EY Team

All About Me!
Show and Tell
Dear Parents,
Our goal in this current Unit of Inquiry' “ Who We Are” is to
encourage students to express themselves and recognise that they are special in their own way. Please help your child bring one item from home that they really like and represent them. If the learners wish to keep their items in our classroom museum, that is absolutely fine to do so and we will make sure that their things are safe with us. This show and tell activity is to provide learning opportunities and to incorporate communication skills, listening skills, and build confidence.
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Ms Phibz
