Celebrating our teachers

                         Wellbeing/Meditation

This week learners were very independent during our meditation time.

We also introduced our interest board that displays our likes and what we enjoy doing at school and outside.

Mathematics

This week in Math, we focused on key skill assessments to ensure all learners are supported according to their best ability. Next week we will be working in different groups to achieve our goals in Math.

Unit of Inquiry

We discussed types of activities. We also watched the story 'Pete the cat. Rocking in his school shoes'

We then scribed the places we enjoy in our school and classroom. This is based on developing our interest and inquiry skills to find out things we enjoy doing. Next week we will be integrating this with our Golden Time

Outdoor learning

Benefits of outdoor learning

Outdoor learning is an important part of child development and I do want to roll this opportunity out. There is more learning than just being inside the classrooms.  Outdoor learning also provides a wealth of opportunities for the children to demonstrate and practice the attributes of the IB learner profile in a way that cannot be replaced in a classroom setting. As children climb and explore physical challenges they learn to develop their own understandings about the boundaries and explore what it means to be courageous risk-takers. The children are knowledgeable as they ask questions and build their own theories about the changes they observe in the natural world.

This week we explored different activities and areas in our outdoor classroom. Learners are becoming familiar with the routine.

Communication and Language/Phonics

This week in Phonics, we focused on alliteration listening for the initial sounds

Literacy

Book of the week
'Brown Brown Bear What do you see?

We explored the book cover and discussed what might be this poem about?

We also explored different colours of the animals and played the traffic light listening game. 'Green go fast' Red means stop' Orange means slow down'

We then decided to play a game of passing the bear around

Important Notice

Mystery Reader

Dear Parent

This year we would like to run a new initiative to promote the importance of reading and literacy and to improve school-parent connections.

On the last Friday of each month, the EY classes will be asking for a ‘Mystery Reader’ to read a story of their choosing in whatever language they would like. This can be done either through Google Meet or by sending a pre-recorded video to show the children.

The first date for this will be Friday 25th September 2020.

In class, the teacher will be getting the children excited about our ‘Mystery Readers’ and we may even play games to try and guess who it might be. If you decide to sign up for the Mystery Reader, please do not tell your child! It will be a fun and exciting surprise for them!

Please help us to encourage a love of reading for your children by volunteering to sign up and be a ‘Mystery Reader’.

Kind regards

EY Team

All About Me!

Show and Tell

Dear Parents,

Our goal in this current Unit of Inquiry' “ Who We Are” is to

encourage students to express themselves and recognise that they are special in their own way. Please help your child bring one item from home that they really like and represent them. If the learners wish to keep their items in our classroom museum, that is absolutely fine to do so and we will make sure that their things are safe with us. This show and tell activity is to provide learning opportunities and to incorporate communication skills, listening skills, and build confidence.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Ms Phibz
