We are going on bear hunt - Week 4

UDIS inspires internationally-minded, balanced

learners who thrive and become active global citizens.

Friday our special day

Every Friday we celebrate our learning (Golden Time)

It is a reward when we listen, take turns, and share, we are kind and helpful, we look after the things in our classroom.

This week we celebrated with our Teddy party. Here are a few pictures!

Wellbeing/Meditation

This week we started reading the book 'In my heart'

We discussed different feelings each day.

In my heart, I feel brave

In my heart, I feel sad, but what makes us happy

In my heart, I feel scared and hopeful

In  my heart, I feel calm

Mathematics

We reviewed numbers 1-10

The focus for this week were shapes. We explored different shapes and learning engagements

Unit of Inquiry
We have finally completed our self-portraits. Learners have also been exploring how their house looks like and how many rooms they have in their house. We explored blocks and legos and natural resources to build our house.

Communication and Language/Phonics

This week we continued with our rhymes and to build our confidence we used microphones and disco light speakers to sing our favourite rhymes.

In Literacy,

This week we went on a bear hunt as part of our Talk4Writing

- We discussed what the book might be about after reading the title.
- We were very excited to see our small world areas and explored what the setting might look like

Here is a short video on retelling the story

Outdoor learning
This week we started with our outdoor learning
Benefits of outdoor learning

Outdoor learning is an important part of child development and I do want to roll this opportunity out. There is more learning than just being inside the classrooms.  Outdoor learning also provides a wealth of opportunities for the children to demonstrate and practice the attributes of the IB learner profile in a way that cannot be replaced in a classroom setting. As children climb and explore physical challenges they learn to develop their own understandings about the boundaries and explore what it means to be courageous risk-takers. The children are knowledgeable as they ask questions and build their own theories about the changes they observe in the natural world.

Here are a few highlights of what outdoor learning looks like

Next Week

Wellbeing/Meditation

Unit of Inquiry“Who We Are ” within the central idea  "We are learning about who we are in relation to others and our environment"

  • My appearance and ability make me unique.

Our focus for the week will be 'I Can'

Lines of inquiry:

How can I be successful?
Key Concept: Perspective

For example, I can cook by Ms. Phibz

We will make videos to show what we are good at?

Mathematics

Learning target:

  •  Shows an interest in numerals in the environment.

  •  Shows an interest in representing numbers.

  •  Shows interest in shapes in the environment.

Review numbers 1-10

1-1 correspondence - Work in groups

Introduce calender

Discuss Days of the Week

Create our classroom visual timetable

Literacy/Talk4writing

Learning Target:

  • Gives meaning to marks they make as they draw, write & paint.
  • Shows interest in illustrations and print in books and print in the environment.
  • Look at books independently.
  • Handles books carefully.

We will continue to retell the story 'WE ARE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT'

- We will create our story map

- Make the bear footprints

- Make videos of us retelling the story

-Create a floor map of the story

Communication and Language/Phonics

Learning Target:

  • Is able to follow directions (if not intently focused on his/her own choice of activity).

  • Joins in with repeated refrains and anticipates key events and phrases in rhymes and stories

Aspect 5: Alliteration

Objective: To hear differences in the sounds at the beginning of words.

Tuning in:  Tuning into alliteration • Listening and remembering initial sounds

Hide two sets of cards from the What Can I Find? Picture Cards in the sand

tray. For example, you may hide the set with the initial sound ‘c’ and the set with

the initial sound ‘h’.

Finding out: leave different object sets in the sand tray for children

to find during their child-initiated playtime.

Sorting out:  Leave the blank What Can I Find? Picture Cards in the drawing area and encourage

children to draw their own object sets to be hidden in the sand tray.

Going further:( Extension) Can children suggest or find other objects that could be added to the sand tray,

beginning with the two initial sounds that you have chosen?

Review our rhymes all week- Continuous provision

Taking action: Confidently sing the rhymes

Important Notice

Mystery Reader

Dear Parent

This year we would like to run a new initiative to promote the importance of reading and literacy and to improve school-parent connections.

On the last Friday of each month, the EY classes will be asking for a ‘Mystery Reader’ to read a story of their choosing in whatever language they would like. This can be done either through Google Meet or by sending a pre-recorded video to show the children.

The first date for this will be Friday 25th September 2020.

In class, the teacher will be getting the children excited about our ‘Mystery Readers’ and we may even play games to try and guess who it might be. If you decide to sign up for the Mystery Reader, please do not tell your child! It will be a fun and exciting surprise for them!

Please help us to encourage a love of reading for your children by volunteering to sign up and be a ‘Mystery Reader’.

Kind regards

EY Team

All About Me!

Show and Tell

Dear Parents,

Our goal in this current Unit of Inquiry' “ Who We Are” is to

encourage students to express themselves and recognise that they are special in their own way. Please help your child bring one item from home that they really like and represent them. If the learners wish to keep their items in our classroom museum, that is absolutely fine to do so and we will make sure that their things are safe with us. This show and tell activity is to provide learning opportunities and to incorporate communication skills, listening skills, and build confidence.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Ms Phibz
