Global School Play Day

On Wednesday 3rd February 2021, UDIS will be participating in the seventh annual Global School Play Day for students in schools around the world. This year our theme will simply be           ‘A day of unstructured play’.

Why?

In his TEDx lecture, Peter Gray, clearly argues the case that today's kids do not grow up playing and this has negatively impacted them in many ways. It's time we return the gift of play to this generation.

Our Play

On the morning of Wednesday, 3rd February students can bring along any toy, board game, or puzzle to school. Toys and games can NOT require batteries or electricity to work. Students can bring along their own toys and each class will set out toys and games as well. Please label each of your toys.  No gun-related toys.

Some suggestions include:

  • A favourite stuffed animal

  • Lego and/or blocks

  • Dolls

  • Action figures

  • Cards

  • Toy cars

Because of COVID restrictions, this event needs to be held in class. All students will stay in their ‘bubbles’ within their own classes or in zones outside. No students will be able to visit any other classes. However, there is still a great opportunity for the students to play with their classmates and engage in unstructured play.

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” Plato
