Student-Led Conferences in EY

RE: Student-led conferences at UDIS

Dear Parents,

This letter is to inform you about the Student-Led Conference (SLC). Our focus for this term is Science and will be held on Tuesday 30th March. SLCs allow our learners to share their learning with their parents and family. We encourage all parents to come along and participate. This term, our SLC will be held as a science fair with the theme ‘Awe and Wonder’. Our learners will showcase a variety of science-themed activities and will have an opportunity to reflect using learner profile dinosaurs. For this SLC, K1 and K2 will merge together to provide an opportunity for you to see how learning takes place in both K1 and K2. This is a great opportunity for you to ask your child questions about their learning and learn new experiments.

The SLCs will run on the morning of Tuesday 30th March with a staggered start from 8:15am. This means that you will be assigned a conference time with your child’s teacher meaning you can come to school at that time. For instance, if your conference is at 9am, you will come to school for 9am with your child. The conferences should take about 20-30 minutes. Once your child’s conference is over, they will remain at school and you are free to leave.

We will set up 6 groups with the following session times. (Your time is highlighted)

Group 1: 8.15 - 8.35

Group 2: 8.40 - 9:00

Group 3: 9.05 - 9.25

Group 4: 9.30 - 9.50

Group 5: 9.55 - 10:15

Group 6: 10.20 - 10.40

Best regards,

The Early Years Team

Unit of Inquiry/In Literacy/Talk4Writing

 - Going Further

Transdisciplinary Theme

How the world works

Central Idea:  Materials behave and interact in certain ways, which determine how people use them.

 Lines of Inquiry :

  • Behaviour of materials

  • Changing properties of materials

  • Manipulation and application of materials to new purposes

- This week we read' Things that float and things that don't'
- We inquired into float and sink. Discussed different materials. Heavy or light.
- We completed two challenges. How many beads can a tin foil hold for it to float or sink?
- How many rocks can your boat hold?

Next Week: Going Further and Making Conclusions

- Read ' Who sank my boat'
- Retell the story
- Create a challenge by using recyclable materials to make our boats.

Communication and Language/Phonics

This week: Talking about sounds - Recap and revise

- Match the picture with sounds
-Blend sounds to make a word

Learners are beginning to show more confidence with their phonics.

We worked in 3 differentiated groups: LA (lower ability), MA (Middle ability), HA (Higher ability)

Learners were able to explain their learning and extend by writing some of the letters they hear in the words.

Next Week: How many letter sounds are in each word? Try counting on your fingers, such as ‘c-a-t, 1-2-3’. Blend the sounds together to say the words.

In Mathematics
This week: 10 little dinosaurs

- We made up a story of the 10 little dinosaurs that walked in a line and one fall away. How many now?

Learners were very enthusiastic and were able to listen to the pattern of the story and understand how many if one is taken away!

- We worked in our differentiated groups

Group  1: Counting and writing numbers to 10
Groups 2: Matching objects to 10
Group  3: Counted dinosaurs - Small world area

Next week: Recap numbers to 10 -15

- Count the dots, compare and match the numbers to the correct dots
- Counting and comparing beads to dots - 1-10
- Count in order to 10

In Thai

This week learners had the chance to reflect on their learning about materials
I can dress ฉันแต่งตัวเองได้.

In PE
This week we focused on our gross motor skills by practicing our balancing using trampoline, hula hoops, and ropes
